"We're Going To Die!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
I'd lol if they were still running XP or server 2000 :P Oh CCP, why you so silly? :P
Don't be daft, the server cluster will be running on a dedicated Linux build, probably running on second-hand PS2 hardware. Anything else would just be unprofessional. |

get it? star? like in space?
...get it?
So you just want them to wipe their home directory?
I think you meant "rm -rf /*"
Or maybe you could try this one: ":(){:|:}:" |

test bumm wrote:We were discussing a week ago how eve would die after fozzies great scheme failed, and the general consensus was a failed server start over and over...and.... In before "I didn't want that game anyways". if not this time....... then.............. And no I haven't asked for isk....and haven't kissed a-ú^&e of someone for stuffing up (heard of testing?) How about being sure before you release a patch into game, like say have a test server. Oh wait..!!
The trick that they seem to have missed is using identical hardware on the test server as on the production server.
Or they forgot to roll this patch out on the test server.
Has to be one or the other.
I've been in similar situations, it happens when devs get overconfident in their programming abilities.
Generally it leads to a CTA among the whole technical staff. |

Fugly Isktaker wrote:"Hey, I just noticed this SQL index uses a - instead of a _ should we fix it today?"
"yeah go for it."
Possibly the most hilarious comment in the thread.
Also, completely believable for the sort of fix someone would be arrogant enough to assume that they don't need to test.

Holy ****!
They are actually running this on a windows server?
Are they mad!?!?!?!? No wonder they need a daily downtime. They really do need to reboot their servers every day. Dayum.
I seriously thought everyone was sensible enough to at least put there servers on a solid OS (some form of UNIX) but apparently I was wrong...
No wonder they can't roll back. They might need to reinstall their OSs to fix this. Did microsoft issue one of their "unstoppable" patches yesterday? |

Runs for weeks without restarts. Your Microsoftphobia is a bit misplaced i think.
Ahh, see, you run for "weeks" without restarts.
I consider running for *years* without restarts to be minimum competency.
Ever heard of "five nines of uptime"? That's the target, not mere weeks. |

If you dislike this, I'd recommend either cancelling your account (and EULA agreement), or traveling to Iceland to attempt to contest the EULA in the appropriate legal venue. If you choose the latter, good luck with that.
Then it's a good thing EULA doesn't apply to people living in Britain. Yeeeah, about that. If you feel that the EULA doesn't "apply" to you, then your access of CCP services is against the law and you can get in quite a bit of trouble. Access to Eve is dependant on agreement with the End User License Agreement. If you don't agree to be bound by the EULA, or for some reason cannot be bound by it, then accessing CCP systems is against the law. Anyway, if, for some magic reason The EULA ACTUALLY didn't bind people in Britain, then CCP would be well within their rights (and likely would be) blocking all connections from, and business with British subjects. No, because they still have their terms of service. They can't enforce the EULA in England. And I think if companies started blocking people in England because their EULA isn't legally binding here then there would be a massive shitstorm, considering the UK has one of the biggest gaming industries going right now. Nobody in their right mind would block connections from England. That's just a stupid idea. For further irony points: the servers are in London.
Father Irony:
UK != England, as real-world politics is making abundantly clear atm. |
